Ocean Acidification

Ocean Acidification is a term that refers to the ongoing decrease in the pH of our planet's oceans.

Carbon dioxide in the air dissolves in water. This is why if you've ever left a glass of water sitting out for an extended period of time it will develop bubbles and a funny taste. The atmospheric gasses are actually making the glass of water more acidic.

On a global scale, this acidification of our oceans can cause problems for marine life. Including coral bleaching and the interference with the shell development of mollusks and crustaceans. Leading to uncertainty regarding the future of marine ecosystems.
