Greenhouse Gases

A greenhouse gas (or GHG for short) is any gas in the atmosphere which absorbs and then re-emits heat.

The main GHGs on Earth are: Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and water vapor (H20).

These gases occur naturally in the atmosphere but human activities such as: burning fossil fuels, raising of livestock, agriculture, and the development of land and products increases the levels of GHGs in the atmosphere.

Thus trapping more heat at the Earth’s surface. Which leads to global warming and climate change.
